Carla has worked with Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs since 1996 where she has supported people with Head and Spinal Cord Injuries (as well as for people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism). In 2006, with the support of her agency, she was able to further her knowledge of Traumatic Brain Injuries and became a Certified Brain Injury Specialist; trained, tested and certified by the Brain Injury Association of America. Also with the support of the agency and a grant

awarded by the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (SCDDSN), she embarked on ThinkFirst Florence County.

Similarly, Beth has worked with children with special needs

Since 1997 in a variety of settings. In 2009, she was introduced to ThinkFirst and joined Carla Ammons in prevention efforts in Florence County. ThinkFirst Florence County is sponsored by the Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. The Chapter goal is to reduce incidence of preventable tragedies in the Florence area by teaching children and youth the importance of water/vehicle/bike safety. The Chapter has 2 health educators, Bea Bea Whitlock and Laudis Davis, and a VIP to help educate others on the importance of being safe and how to prevent accidents.
